While no official announcement has been made by Fox, there are rumors that Kree Harrison is one country fans will want to look out for when Season 12 of ‘American Idol‘ begins on Jan. 16. The Texan is an aspiring country star who has lived through double tragedy to share her songs.
According to her biography at Reverb Nation, Harrison lost both parents before the age of 18. Her father died in an airplane crash when she was 12, and her mother died in a car accident shortly after she turned 16. By then, the singer had already proved herself in Nashville, having signed a publishing deal, appeared on Rosie O’Donnell’s talk show, played clubs like the Bluebird Cafe and written with well-known Music City songwriters.
Harrison no longer has a publishing deal — MJSBigBlog.com reports that Harrison was briefly signed to Lyric Street Records when she was 12 years old — and Examiner explains that she didn’t want to become a Disney act a la Miley Cyrus. Her commitment is to country music, as video of her singing Dolly Parton‘s ’9 to 5′ proves.
It’s not clear if Harrison makes it past Keith Urban and his fellow ‘American Idol’ judges to get that golden ticket to Hollywood, but there is some speculation, if you’re looking for a spoiler. In other videos found by searching her name on YouTube, Harrison proves she has a voice strong enough to earn a place on the show. Whether or not she has the star power remains to be seen.
